At LookFlightsFares (lookflightsfares.com), we strive to ensure transparent cancellation guidelines. Because ticket validity and cancellation fees are established by individual operating airlines, the following rules apply to reservations.
1. 24-Hour Free Cancellation Grace Period
In accordance with US Department of Transportation regulations, most airline tickets booked at least 7 days prior to departure may be cancelled within 24 hours of booking for a full refund without standard airline cancellation penalties.
2. Standard Airline Fare Rules After 24 Hours
Once the 24-hour window has elapsed, cancellation eligibility is governed strictly by the airline's fare rules:
- Non-Refundable Fares: The majority of promotional and economy fares are non-refundable. When cancelled, the value may be retained as an airline travel credit for future booking, less carrier penalty fees.
- Refundable Fares: Fully flexible tickets may be cancelled for a direct refund back to the original form of payment, subject to airline administrative processing.
3. Airline Involuntary Schedule Changes & Flight Cancellations
If an airline cancels a flight or makes a major schedule change (typically exceeding 120 minutes), passengers are entitled to rebooking on the next available flight or a full refund under applicable DOT regulations.
